Advanced Lesson 3: Tags

A tag is a way of associating a keyword with an item to help describe the item. In this tutorial you will learn about using tags in Workspace.

When content is added to Workspace, it is given a title and a description.  But sometimes, important information is not conveyed in either the title or description.  To associate more keywords with an item in Workspace, you can “tag” the item.  For example, if a folder contained information about math education, you could tag it "math-education."  If a calendar event was for a conference about ESL learner, you could tag the event “ESL-learner-conference.”

On most pages you will find a Tags checkbox. By ticking the checkbox, you can see how a particular item has been tagged.  You can add tags here.  You can also click on existing tags to search for items that share the same tag.

The tags are displayed in a ‘Tag cloud,’ which is sorted alphabetically.  Tags you have contributed are highlighted.  Tags that have been used more than once are displayed in a larger font.

Tagging Rules:

Tags are an easy way to catalog information – try tagging a few items yourself and then view the next tutorial about wikis and blogs.
