Basic Lesson 2: My Page
The video will show you how to effectively use My Page, your personal space within Workspace.
When you log in to Workspace, you will see My Page, a collection of items that help you access important files and see important announcements. My Page comprises several areas: your public and private folders, your task list, a section for news and upcoming events, a tip of the day, and a dashboard for each of your projects. A dashboard is a space that displays the frequently used folders, calendars, and other Workspace items of your choice so you can access them quickly and conveniently. You control the content and order of a dashboard. My Page allows you to display or hide these dashboards and add new dashboards.
The dashboards displayed on My Page let you see a collection of frequently-used items – when you first log in, the dashboards will either be empty or display commonly-used folders, like a reading room or a calendar. It’s important to remember that you can customize the dashboards to show exactly what you need when you work. For example, if you find yourself accessing a particular folder frequently, you can link each of the folders into one dashboard and always be able to access the folder quickly and easily.
A few things you need to know about My Home:
- You can choose how many items you’d like to see in your public and private folders by clicking on the pencil icon.
- To check whether new tasks have been assigned to you, you must click Update My Task List. To see details about the task, either click the name of the task or view all tasks assigned to you by clicking My Task List.
- You can easily add an announcement by clicking on the star. This announcement will be seen by everyone in your workgroup!
- The Tip of the Day changes daily! To learn more about a particular tip, just click the link.
- Clicking on the home icon will take you to your workspace.
- Dashboards can be hidden from view by clicking on the minimize icon.
- Clicking the pencil icon allows you to choose how many items you’d like to display in your dashboard.
- You link items into a dashboard by
- Navigating to the item you want to link
- Clicking link this or link items.
- Choosing which dashboard you want the items to appear in.
- Clicking OK.
- Let me show you what I mean. I use the Tech Services Calendar frequently. Instead of navigating to it every time I need to view it, I can link it into My Page. I start by navigating to the item I want to link: the tech services calendar
- Click Link This.
- Place the link in the Tech Services Dashboard and click OK.
- Now when I go back to My Page, I see that a link to the calendar has been placed in the dashboard.
- Custom dashboards can be added by clicking Manage Dashboards and then clicking Dashboards in the Add section of the command bar.
Now that you’re more familiar with My Page, return to Workspace and link a folder into one of the dashboards on My Page. Do you think you might have a use for a custom dashboard? When you’re finished, view the next tutorial.
